Spring Breakers Should Be Taking a Break by Avery Paterson
As the pandemic spreads more and more people are going into quarantine. Away from school, however, can cause many issues with the amount of partying college students are doing. A viral college student, Brady Sluder, had his internet fame for saying on live tv, “If I get corona, I get corona,” when asked why he was partying through the pandemic. College students filled up the beaches in Miami to the extent that there were thousands of them partying, drinking, and splashing in the waves. All of them seemed to be living under the same fantasy, the virus isn’t even bad. Brianna Leeder, 22, claimed “It’s really messing up my spring break. They’re closing all the beaches and bars. They’re overreacting.” Others claimed even if they got it, it wouldn’t affect them greatly. While as of now, scientists believe that the younger population will not be greatly harmed if they get the coronavirus, there is also a risk for the younger population to spread it. However, even with the amount of partying at the beaches, Florida has yet to close them because of spring break. The travel industry provides billions of dollars for places like Florida every year, and so they are hesitant to close them. However, one of the college students, Luke Green, has been diagnosed with the virus who was seen last Sunday partying at beaches in Miami. Since then, efforts to close the beaches have been more prevalent. For now, Florida has yet to close its beaches, and most other states have no closed their bars, as they are both high-income places.
